Enjoying some of the fine grub at the Jamaica Cancer Society's annual wine-and-cheese party are Rockey Allen, director of the Jamaica Fire Brigade Board, and Andrea Reid, senior investment advisor at Scotia DBG Investments.
The crisp and slightly chilly late November air, carried the aroma of succulent meals, to patrons at the Jamaica Cancer Society's annual wine-and-cheese party last Friday.
The lawns of Jamaica House became a smorgasbord of choices for patrons and they made sure to get their money's worth, sampling everything from pasta to the sweet delights for which your dentist would probably give you a stern warning. There was something for everybody, the meat lovers on one side of the plate and the vegetarians on the other, all left satisfied.
This year had a Spanish theme: 'A Touch of Olé,' and, in keeping with that theme, the entertainment package was filled with Spanish ballads played over the speakers, flamenco dancing and Latin-inspired instrumentalists. There were no bulls and matadors, however (which was probably for the best - they might have scared the children).
Worthy cause
The wine and cheese party is a popular event on the social calendar, partly because of its excellent cuisine, but probably more so for the worthy cause that it supports. The funds from this year's event will go to providing screening, raising the levels of awareness of cancer and providing supplies to the treatment clinics islandwide.
Filling your stomach and fighting a deadly disease at the same time? Now that's food for thought!
