published: Wednesday | December 3, 2008

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine:

The killing of a customer at the Sagicor Plaza (formerly the LOJ Plaza) in Spanish Town, St Catherine, resulted in several businesses closing their doors early on Monday.

The dead man has been identified as Noel Williams, otherwise called Bobo, 36, barber of Old Road, Thompson Pen, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 12:20 p.m., Williams went inside the wholesale photo store on the plaza to transact business when he was approached by two men who shot him. He died on the spot.

The men then ran from the building on to March Pen Road, where they were challenged by police personnel. They reportedly shot at the lawmen, who took cover and fired back.

Not identified

One of the attackers was hit. He ran a short distance before collapsing. He was found clutching a Glock pistol. He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Up to press time, his identity could not be confirmed.

The killings bring to 179, the number of homicides in the St Catherine North Police Division this year.
