Killancholly verdict today
Published: Friday | December 5, 2008
The jury is expected to hand down its verdict today at the trial of 35-year-old security guard Jeffrey Perry, who is charged with the murder of three children at Killancholly, St Mary, in January 2005.
Senior Puisne Judge Marva McIntosh began her summation to the jury on Tuesday afternoon.
Yesterday, she told the jurors that they should first consider if Perry's caution statement to the police, admitting he killed the three children was legitimate.
The judge said that if the jury found that Perry made the statement, it should go further and consider whether the statement was true.
She described part of the caution statement as incriminating and another part as self-serving, but advised the jury to consider all of the statement which was read to them at the trial.
Perry has been on trial in the Home Circuit Court since November 17 for the murder committed between January 27 and January 28, 2005.
The children: 13-year-old Sue Ann Gordon, 15-year-old Dwayne Gordon and four-year-old Shadice Gordon, were fatally stabbed at their home in Killancholly.
Statement given in february
Perry gave the caution statement on February 8, 2005, and it was written by Detective Inspector Michael Garrick.
Deputy Superintendent Robert Whyte and attorney-at-law Christopher Hibbert were present when the statement was given.
The jury is expected to hand down its verdict today after the judge completes her summation.
