EDITORIAL - Where consumer knowledge is power
We note with interest the Consumer Affairs Commission's (CAC) stated intention to publish a weekly survey of basic grocery items amid recent complaints about continued high food prices despite a general lowering on the world markets.

Issue: Government stimulus not enough

The Editor, Sir: Bruce Golding is copying the stimulus packages announced in the United States, but they won't work here in Jamaica! America is a vast continent with the options of innumerable resources and enormous overseas investments all across the globe.

Government should support South African development initiative

Instead of calling for the withdrawal of the Order of Jamaica from Robert Mugabe, Jamaica needs to lend its support to the current initiatives of the Southern African Development Community for the enforcement of the Global Political Agreement signed on September 15 to create an all-inclusive government representing the ZANU-PF and Movement for Democratic Change.

Honeymoon is over

The Editor, Sir: It is ironic that when the banking crisis exploded in the United States about two months ago, the Golding administration and its financial team was out front declaring in loud voices that the US crisis would have little effect on the Jamaican economy. Our stocks and investments are not tied to them in a big way, they said.

Highway headaches

About two weeks ago, I had business to conduct at Sampar's Cash and Carry on the western side of Marcus Garvey Drive just below Three Miles. I approached from Hagley Park Road, and found that once I got on to Marcus Garvey Drive (the eastern side), I could not turn right to get on to the western side to do my business.
