Accepting gifts we hate

'Tis the season for gift giving and persons will go all out to ensure that their loved ones are happy.

But even when individuals buy the gift they think their friends or family will enjoy, they are sometimes way off the mark.

Sasha Granmtthought her boyfriend's room needed a facelift for Christmas, so she went and bought him a sheet set and some curtains. But he was far from gracious.

"He asked me what kind of gift was this, so I took it back to the store and got back my money," she told Saturday Life.

It's the thought that counts

Anna-Kay Birdreceived a gift from her friend that she hated but she said it's the thought that counted and that she would have never expressed her disappointment openly.

"A friend of mine bought me a dress one year, which looked like a curtain. I hated every bit of it but I told her that I liked it because I didn't want to hurt her feelings,' Bird tells Saturday Life.

Similarly, Tamara Harris' boyfriend likes to buy her body splashes and matching moisturising lotion. "But he always buys the cheap brand and I really do not like the smell," Harris said.

"But I accept the gift without hurting his feelings because he seems to get so much pleasure when he buys these feminine products," Harris explained.

Kemesha Thomas, though, finds it hard to hold back. "I can't be a hypocrite. If I don't like the gift, I am going to let you know that I don't like it," she said.

She noted that the best thing to do is to jot down recommendations from the intended recipient.

"Or what I do around Christmas and birthday time is to drop hints so the gift buyer will know exactly what I want," she added.
