Toy shoppers, beware!

Published: Saturday | December 20, 2008

The Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) is encouraging shoppers to exercise caution as they shop for toys this year. The CAC urged consumers to beware of purchasing defective toys when shopping in the United States and online.

The consumer protection watchdog issued a list of brands which have been recalled as late as October by United States entities because they have proven to be hazardous to the health of children.

So far, the Jamaica Bureau of Standards has not identified on local shelves any of the toys cited by the CAC.

This list is not exhaustive, but includes some of the brands which are popular in Jamaica.

The following is a list of toys that were recalled

✗ Fisher-Price Learning Pots and Pans: recalled due to choking hazard.

✗ Fisher-Price Go Diego Go boat toy: recalled due to violation of lead paint standards.

✗ Disney Tinker Bell Wands: recalled due to violation of lead paint standards.

✗ Disney's Winnie the Pooh play sets: recalled due to violation of lead paint standards.

✗ Mattel Batman and One Piece magnetic action figure sets: recalled due to magnets coming loose.

✗ Mattel's various Barbie accessory toys: recalled due to lead paint violations.

✗ Toy xylophones by King Import Warehouse: recalled due to violation of lead paint standards.
