Dear Counsellor:
I am a Christian and sometimes question myself about life. There are no answers to many questions I ask and I get discouraged at times. I need help to maintain my spirituality.

Dear Mary:
Nothing in life is easy. When you have given a commitment and come in agreement with someone or something, it will require perseverance, trust and hope in God, and a willingness to go the distance regardless of the sacrifice.
Think of the marital vows. You have to love and cherish, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness or health, and forsaking all others so long as life lasts. This is the basis of making a commitment. It is not easy and you need God's strength to carry through on your pledge. Many people who make pledges give up at the first sign of trouble. We need to have a positive attitude in any circumstances. As the saying goes, attitude determines altitude.
You need to focus on God's love and care. He is always present, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Establish a warm, loving relationship with God so that at all times you are in communication with him. Let Him lead you and direct you. Sometimes an opportunity presents itself but it is not compatible with your goals. Decisions have to be made and so you will always have choices. Think of God and choose what will give Him glory and praise.
You need to love and cherish yourself so that you will be in a better position to love and cherish others. Charity is basic to life, especially the Christian life. We need to help others; in so doing, we are helping ourselves. Humans have the same needs and we are all in training to maintain good relationships. Forgiveness, tolerance and volunteerism should be part of our vocabulary and strategic plan.
This Christmas, let us celebrate the everlasting love of God and share the Good News with others. We need to give practical assistance to others so that their lives can improve. Think of it: Others gave that we might have today - education, health, housing, food and security. Always be thankful, no matter the situation. Things can always worsen but with a prayerful attitude and steadfast hope, we can have faith that things will work out.
