Salvation Army still providing

Despite the reduction of contribution to the Salvation Army's annual Christmas Kettle programme, the church group continued to give to the less fortunate and over the last few days hosted several treats in St Elizabeth for over 700 persons.

Last Friday, they treated over 300 persons at their church at Top Hill in south St Elizabeth, while on Monday they made 150 patients at the Black River Hospital much happier by providing them with food and toiletry and hosted another treat at All Valley district in the parish.

The captain is appealing to those who like to contribute to the Salvation Army to call the church office at 965-1474 or 845-0618.

Christmas survives bauxite woes

Despite the current financial problems affecting the bauxite/alumina sector, St Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners has still stretched out a helping hand to the less-privileged members of communities around its operational areas this Christmas.

This year, the company operated a scaled-down Christmas-work programme under which approximately 100 persons were assisted. The work involved the general clean-up of several communities as well as the cleaning of drains and gullies.

St Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners also continued with their annual Christmas Treat at the St Ann Infirmary where all the residents and staff at that institution were given a Christmas dinner.

The annual Kiddies Christmas treat for children in the company's operational areas was also held and over 300 children who came out to be fêted were treated to a variety of rides, food and toys.
