BARBADOS - Efforts to revive media group

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):

The recent arrest of two journalists in Barbados has led to the revival of the Barbados Association of Journalists (BAJ), which has recently been dormant.

Members of the media fraternity met this weekend and formed a new interim committee, which said its first order of business was to meet with the Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin to deal with "various incidents that have happened between the police force and the press."

"Commissioner Dottin said he wanted to meet with media managers to discuss these incidents and we think it is imperative that he also meets with journalists," said the association's interim president, Amanda Lynch-Foster.

She said the BAJ would also look to establish better links between the public and the press.

Sunday's meeting came on the heels of the December 20 arrest of two photo journalists on the island.

The last BAJ executive was dissolved back in 2000.
