LONDON, England (CMC):
Caribbean players Jason Roberts and Ian Goodison netted important goals for their teams in English football on Sunday.
Grenadian Roberts had a goal and an assist for resurgent Blackburn Rovers, but they had to settle for a 2-2 premier league draw with beleaguered Manchester City, while Jamaican Goodison scored for Tranmere to beat Walsall 2-1 in League One.
In the League One Prenton Park match, the Jamaican veteran defender Goodison scored his first goal this season for Tranmere Rovers but also caused an equalising goal before his side snatched a late win against Walsall.
Goodison, 36, put Tranmere in front on 42 minutes when he was perfectly positioned for a tap-in goal against Walsall's Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper, Clayton Ince, after Chris Shuker hit a shot across the goal.
The big defender, who played on Jamaica's historic squad to the 1998 World Cup Finals in France, turned villain in the 54th minute when he tripped Jabo Ibehre in the box to give up a penalty. Marco Reich made no mistake from the spot.
Ince had an outstanding game for Walsall but was unable to deny Antony Kay an injury-time winner to earn Tranmere a 2-1 victory.
Blackburn, whose form has been showing a turnaround since Sam Allardyce took over from Paul Ince earlier this month, appeared to be coasting to victory 2-0 up with six minutes to go at Blackburn's Ewood Park.
But Daniel Sturridge and the Brazilian Robinho grabbed very late goals to secure City a 2-2 draw at Blackburn's Ewood Park.
