Dismay at police endorsement
Published: Wednesday | December 31, 2008
I am filled with profound dismay, surprise and disbelief after reading the captioned article 'Police group welcomes ceasefire initiative'.
I understand that an 'interest group' is calling for a national ceasefire for the month of January 2009. Of course, this is asking criminals not to kill for the month of January.
However, I grieve, as it appears that the time has come for an association within the Jamaica Constabulary Force to be openly endorsing the appeal of a special-interest group beseeching criminals to 'Hold Fire!'.
I pray that before other police personnel 'respectfully beg to second the ceasefire motion', they will recite their pledge and motto, 'To protect and serve' even the very criminal.
I urge you to regroup and launch a fresh assault on crime and violence.
I am, etc.,
