Intense discussions are set to start between Government, technocrats, private sector and unions in a few weeks to formulate new policies in bid to steer the country through the growing economic turmoil on the global front, Prime Minister Bruce Golding has said.
The consultations are to coincide with Cabinet's preparation of the 2009/ 2010 budget.
Delivering his year-end message to Jamaicans, Golding emphasised that the country urgently needs to find new strategies to deal with the unravelling financial crisis.
"Our economic structure and strategies and strategies weren't able to cut it in the past. They are are even less likely to cut it in the future," he underscored.
He said it was unlikely that the world's economic framework would return to pre-crisis paradigms, adding that a new game plan was critical to turning around fortunes.
"The international financial structures are likely to be different; trading patterns are likely to be different; investment decisions and the attitude to emerging markets are likely to be different," Golding told Jamaicans.
He continued: "Fast-growing areas of economic activity are likely to be different. Some traditional doors are likely to be closed and new ones opened. It's going to be a new ball game."
