PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo says he is nearing match-fitness and is looking forward to returning to action after being sidelined by an ankle injury.

The 25-year-old, who last played for the West Indies against Australia in July earlier last year, was forced to undergo surgery in New York in August to correct the injury he had been carrying for almost two years.

"So far, I've been recovering well. I've got an appointment on the ninth [of January] and after that I'll know when I'll be able to come back," Bravo said.

The effervescent all-rounder was forced to miss the West Indies one-day tours of Canada and Abu Dhabi last year, along with the current Test and one-day tour of New Zealand.

Bravo, who has played 31 Tests and 88 one-day internationals, said that he would be aiming to perform with more consistency when he returned to the game this year.

"I would like to be more consistent. Whatever team I am playing for, whether it's West Indies, T&T or my club (Queens Park), I will be trying to win more games for them," Bravo stressed.

Bravo said he was eyeing the imminent England series in the Caribbean where West Indies will play four Tests, five ODIs and a Twenty20 international against the tourists between February and April.

"I love playing against England. It's very competitive and I enjoy playing against Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff," he said. "I like the challenge of bowling to Pietersen and Flintoff is one of my idols."
