Port Royal is one of the most historically intriguing and important places in the western hemisphere, yet successive governments have failed to realise the economic and cultural potential of this jewel.

Let us remake Port Royal as a national park with a pirate theme. Give opportunities to the residents to open small souvenir shops, restaurants, tour-guide operations and diving facilities.

Government should consider a modern marina with restaurants to attract boat traffic. Visitors should be required to pay a small fee to visit the attractions and a refurbished museum.

A yearly festival with a pirate theme and assorted entertainment should be promoted. Let us make Port Royal not only a tourist attraction, but a year-round destination for all Jamaicans.
