NOTE-WORTHY

  • Thanks for the crossing

On January 12, about 5:20 p.m. while coming home from work I was flabbergasted to see a pedestrian crossing close to the intersection of Content Road and the main road from Ocho Rios to White River.

At this crossing it takes a good five minutes or more to get to either side of the road. I must say using the crossing that evening took me far less than three minutes to get to the opposite side as motorists observe this sign.

So let me take the opportunity to thank the agency or person who is responsible for this.

You have indeed come to our rescue.

    Thanks a million.

  • ID card is useful tool

I just got through reading S. Peter Campbell's letter regarding his opposition to the proposal for a national identification card. I noticed, quite ironically, that his address is in the United States. The same US that has a mandatory tracking system for all persons, i.e. the social security number.

How then can you decry the need for a similar system locally? Crime is not getting out of hand, it is already out of control. Anything that is done to rein in this beast must be supported by all concerned. This and other measures will not by themselves become a 'magic' cure. What they will do, however, is form an integral ingredient in a 'cocktail' for the suppression and elimination of crime.

I am sure you would agree that curtailing the movements of criminals is a good start in the fight against crime.
