'Freedumb' of expression

The Editor, Sir:

On further discourse concerning lewdness in our music, I fear this is just the tip of the iceberg. Living within a democratic framework, citizens are expected to behave in acceptable ways. Honourable and responsible people deserve freedom. What exists in Jamaica is 'freedumb' where its citizenry acts freely with no personal or even state restraints. We are living dangerously close to anarchy and lawlessness - on the roads, in the behaviour of children (who simply emulate or ape adults), concerts, work situations, musical lyrics and the list continues.

Retraining

Although it's very late to improve the social deterioration, irresponsible ways and behaviour must be reined in. People will fight even when they are wrong, as seen in Mayor McKenzie's effort to correct the street-vending problem that should never have been allowed in the first place. The current values and attitudes are a challenge to realign. Retraining (or training) must take place to put our country on a better path. The 'how to do it' is the question. But we can make a start with rules and regulations such as imposing fines for lewd lyrics.

Rules and regulations are the basics for moral education in the family and in society at large.

I am, etc.,
