HEALTH & FITNESS - 'Get fit to fête' at socacise
Published: Monday | February 16, 2009
This group gets into shape under the guidance of the dance instructors at a socacise session.
Carnival fever is in the air and before you know it, it will be the big climax - time to hit the streets for the road march. Many have already purchased their costumes to play mas, and there are some who still have not decided on which one to choose.
However, whether you are jumping mas, costume and all, or just jumping for no reason, it will definitely require stamina. Having a fab body for the event will only make your costume look even better. It will also certainly be a confidence-booster.
Well, there is hope for you. The organisers of Bacchanal Jamaica, as in previous years, will begin the first in the socacise workout sessions today.
Fête
Dubbed 'Get fit to fête', this will be held every Monday and Wednesday, for two hours at Mas Camp, along Oxford Road in St Andrew, to get people pepped up during the carnival season and ready for the road. Of course, being a part of the season's activities, and as the name suggests, persons will get into shape, dancing and working out to pulsating soca mixes.
Public relations manager for Bacchanal Jamaica, Samantha Franklin, says instructors will come from the Sweat Shop, including master instructor Pepper Dawson, who will take charge of the workout sessions.
She noted that while persons will undergo a 'serious' workout, it will still be a fun vibe. "It will be a lot of fun. It will be a high-energy workout session and I mean persons will be able to learn the latest soca dance moves coming straight out of Trinidad."
Socacise is free, which is an added incentive, so you can achieve a carnival-ready body and the added stamina to keep up during the season. And, nothing tops a good workout in a fun, exciting and high-energy environment in a true carnival-like fashion.
