Left: Silva celebrates birthday on April 14. Right: Spaulding marked his special day on April 1.

Then, my dears, the buzz is all about the Trelawny Yam Festival over the Easter weekend, at the Hague Showground, and dears how!

Luvs, this cultural, heritage and food festival has taken on international significance this year, following on that parish's Usain Bolt's sensational triple gold-medal haul at the Beijing Olympics, last year. The buzz word in athletics circles and in the world of sports is yam. Make that Trelawny yam.

Busy Easter season

So, it's all systems go for this year's annual staging of the event, first held in 1997. And it's promising to be one very busy Easter season and then some.

Not only will there be the traditional weekend getaways and fab parties from Port Antonio to Negril, hotelier Peter Fraser is promising a fab Easter parade of hats on Easter Sunday, at the traditional brunch, at the Royal Plantation Hotel and Spa in Ocho Rios.

Pumpkins, there will be a faultless selection of wines to complement it, a fashion show and a best Easter lady's hat competition.

Dears, it promises to be all that and then some, so you know it's the preferred brunch stop between the NDTC Easter Sunday morning performance and the yam festival at the Hague showgrounds.

Laid-back getaway

At the very 'in' Crane Ridge Resort and apartments in the middle of Ocho Rios, St Ann, the very charming general manager Andrea Greene is promising a laid-back getaway for the vacationer.

Here, the buzz phrase is: It's all about easy-like-Sunday-morning.

If yours is not a confirmed reservation, don't come calling as there is absolutely no room at this inn.

And dears, the invites are out. On Saturday, May 16, the fifth anniversary of the American Friends of Jamaica, Inc. Florida chapter's annual celebratory gala and fund-raiser, The Peacock Ball, promises to be an absolute smasheroni, with this year's International Humanitarian awardee being Michelle Rollins, philanthropist and chair of Rollins Jamaica Ltd.

Dears, scheduled for Ritz Carlton, in Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida, the black-tie affair will benefit Jamaican charities and is a definite must-attend!

Fabulous dinner

And speaking of fabulous people, places and things, my dears, people are still talking about the fabulous dinner party legal eagle and socialite Andrea Bickhoff Benjamin hosted at her fab home in the hills of St. Andrew two Tuesdays ago, in honour of former Canadian high commissioners to Jamaica, John Robinson and his successor Claudio Valle and wife Louise Valle.

The small, intimate gathering saw a shortlist of friends of Robinson and the Valles in attendance and it made for a simply marvellous outing!

Sweet things, we are talking soaring spirits, elegant fare, good company that all translated into a most salubrious atmosphere. It was just what the doctor ordered for the visiting former envoys.

Bickhoff Benjamin and her daughter Christina Bickhoff Benjamin were faultless hosts!

Celebrations

And, my dears, the week-long celebrations in New York to mark the fab Karen Stephens' birthday, comes to an end tomorrow night with an intimate dinner.

Belated birthday wishes to fashion dish Yvonne Wilks, who celebrated her very special day on Monday, March 30.

Her former boss, the former head of the RJR Communications Group, J. Lester Spaulding celebrated his special day on April 1.

Businessman and race horse owner/afficionado and globe-trotter Howard Hamilton, celebrated his birthday yesterday.

And birthday cheers to the absolutely fab Lydia Moss-Solomon who celebrates hers tomorrow.

Internationally famous Cat Coore of Third World will be partying some more come Monday the 6th, as the multi-talented musician marks his birthday.

Nathan Bird of Montego Bay will be partying up a storm on Monday the 13th to mark his 20th birthday.

And come Tuesday, the 14th, the ever affable Spanish Ambassador His Excellency Jesus Silva, will celebrate his birthday and the buzz is it will be all that and then some!

Best wishes all around, with champagne toasts and caviar treats!
