Village United's coach Cassman Williams had one of those golden moments on Sunday, after his relegation-position team took maximum points off Meadhaven United, in their Digicel Premier League football match at Constant Spring playfield.
"Three points at this stage is like gold for us, especially against a team like this," noted Williams of their 1-0 win against the team they are most likely to catch, if they are to survive the drop.
The Trelawny team, lying second from bottom, moved to 30 points, three behind Meadhaven United. They are also one ahead of bottom-place Reno, which hammered St Georges Sports Club 6-1 at Frome.
"I am pleased with the points, but I am not pleased with the overall performance, especially in the latter stages," added Williams.
"It's now on to Wednesday's clash with St Georges at Lynch Park, where we hope to continue and pick up more points."
An early second-half goal from defender Andre Moore gave Village a 1-0 win over nine-man Meadhaven United at Constant Spring Complex in a battle of the lower-place teams in the Digicel Premier League.
All-important goal
Moore, who for most of the game tormented Meadhaven's attackers in defence, scored the all-important goal in the 56th minute against the run of play. He fired a ferocious shot, which squeezed under the crossbar of Meadhaven's goalkeeper Andrew Gibson.
Stunned, Meadhaven players and fans, who were hoping that their team would either extend or maintain their six-point advantage heading into the final four rounds of matches, stood still in disbelief, while for Village's fans who took the long trip from Trelawny, it was non-stop jubilation.
Both teams had a fairly decent first half with Meadhaven creating more chances.
In the second half, Meadhaven again took the game to Village, who were willing to play a counter-attacking game, a strategy which bore fruit through Moore.
Meadhaven then lost defenders Raymond Williamson and Roger Rodney through violent play within 10 minutes after the goal, a situation which the visitors took full advantage of, despite close shaves in the 85th, 89th and 90th minutes.
Dejected looking
"It's a very tough game to lose considering the way we lost," said a dejected looking Alrick Clarke, coach of Meadhaven. "We were down to nine men but had three glorious opportunities towards the end.
"But we are still in front of them and will continue to fight," he declared.
