Don Drummond - File
Trojan Records has reissued Don Drummond's Memorial Album to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the trombonist's death. The album was first released by the British company in late 1969.
The new edition of Memorial Album is a double disc that contains 12 tracks featured on the original disc, as well as 37 songs done for producer Arthur 'Duke' Reid by Drummond and his bandmates in The Skatalites.
Disc one includes songs like Garden of Love, Green Island, Silver Dollar and Woman A Come by Marguerita and Baba Brooks.
Marguerita was Anita Mahfood, an exotic dancer who was Drummond's lover. The musician murdered her on New Year's Day 1965, and was committed to the Bellevue asylum in east Kingston.
Drummond, who composed ska standards such as Confucius and Eastern Standard Time, died at Bellevue in May 1969 at the age of 36.
