August Town, Humble Lions qualify for premier league

August Town and Humble Lions clinched the two spots for next season's Digicel Premier League after securing contrasting results in the final round of yesterday's confederation play-off series.
August Town walloped Brazil 4-0 at Drax Hall to book their spot, while Humble Lions claimed their place after coming from behind with a 1-1 draw against Wadadah at Brancourt.
Akeem Themsead, 35th minute, and Josemar Campbell, 43rd minute, scored to give August Town a 2-0 lead at half-time, before Terrence Allen's 48th-minute free kick and Nicholas Smith's 77th-minute strike ensured their return to the premier league after a one year absence.
For August Town's Calvin Fitzgerald, who previously coached premier league teams Waterhouse and Tivoli, his season's mandate had been achieved.
Management team
"It is a satisfying feeling to know that at the start of the season the mandate was to bring this team back to the premier league. From here, I just have to sit with the management team and see how we move forward."
At Brancourt, the home side endured a tense one-hour wait before Kevin Mighty's unchallenged header at the 59th minute provided the equaliser.
Wadadah had silenced the home side after Mark Williams scored from the penalty spot in the 44th minute.
Dominance
That spot kick came on the heels of Steven Irving's dribble that dismantled the Humble Lions defence and probably reflected the dominance of Wadadah in the first half.
The usually cool Anthony Pringle, coach of the Humble Lions team, walked nervously around and at no time stayed in the area reserved for the technical staff.
His opposite number, Daniel Ricketts, as well as the entire Wadadah bench, were vocally agitated throughout, foaming at a number of the referee's calls.
In the end Pringle found consultation at the final whistle.
"Bwoy, I was tense all the time but happy now as we have finally given this gift to the community (Effortville)," he told The Gleaner.
