Some students at the Corporate Area-based Sts Peter and Paul Prep School watched yesterday morning as an out-of-control tractor slammed into a motor car, pushing it through the perimeter fence on to the school compound and injuring its two occupants.

One of the victims, a 14-year-old student of St George's College, was a recent graduate of the school.

The boy and his 47-year-old mother were taken to hospital where they were admitted with life-threatening wounds.

"I was in the schoolyard when I heard this loud sound and when I look a see the tractor coming down the hill (Oakshore Road) and a blue car going down the road (Munroe Road towards Old Hope Road).

"And the tractor pick up the car and run through the school fence where the car turn over on the top. Me and some other men run and turn the car on the wheels before we tek out the little boy who was bleeding from his head," a man who claimed to be an eyewitness told The Gleaner.

Passing motorist

The injured boy was taken to hospital by a parent who had just left his child at the school. The woman was later taken to hospital by another passing motorist.

The driver of the tractor was detained and questioned by the police but, up to late yesterday, no charges had been laid against him.

It is believed that the tractor brake failed as it was heading down Oakshore Road, which has a sharp decline to its intersection with Munroe Road.

The prep school staged normal classes despite the accident.
