Jamaicans ignoring positives
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I recently received a very noteworthy Facebook message from the 'G2K cyberspace brigade' that I
What is interesting is the sheer amount of positive developments. It may be that the Bruce Golding government has been treated unfairly or had its accomplishments watered down by this extradition drama.
Have we gone mad?
One has to ask; has Jamaica gone mad? After all, I have picked up the following news reports scattered throughout the media in Jamaica:
1. The police are reporting no murders in the last 48 hours (Friday June 11) and the daily average murder total recently fell from five per day to one.
2. The Jamaican dollar continues to strengthen against major currencies. As a result companies have started to announce roll back in prices.
3. Central bank interest rates down to around 9.5 per cent; lowest in 28 years.
4. Electricity bills going down in light of Jamaican dollar strengthening and stabilised oil prices.
5. Agriculture booming. Tourism going on very well. Energy revolution coming with the introduction of LNG and other alternatives to our energy mix.
6. The Jamaica Debt Exchange is an absolute success in addition to a series of divestments of debt ridden and loss-making state assets that have been an albatross around the necks of Jamaicans.
7. In addition to that Jamaica has been getting stellar reviews and support from Oppenheimer, the European Union, the Organ-isation of American States, the Obama administration and well-thinking Jamaicans here and across the globe in light of the now solidifying fight against crime and violence.
What the hell is going on in Jamaica ? Have these people gone mad? The country we used to love is gone.
Should the prime minister resign? Absolutely not. Keep up the good work, Sir!
Enjoy the World Cup people!
