Wyndham back in New Kingston
Hilton Hotels said Monday that its displaced senior managers at Delroy Howell's New Kingston property would be offered, as appropriate, positions in the Caribbean and elsewhere in the global operation.
Hilton ended a 12-year run as managers of the property on June 30, two years into Howell's acquisition of the hotel property, which is held under a company he chairs known as Ocean Chimo.
Howell has struck a new deal with Wyndham Hotels, marking that hotel company's return to Jamaica.
Wyndham last operated a property in Montego Bay - the current Rose Hall Hotel and Spa, which is now a Hilton- branded hotel.
Hilton said it plans to remain in Jamaica.
Manager of the Hilton Kingston, Frank Rosheuvel, who said his goodbyes at a farewell function, was the only named casualty of the change of management. Hilton did not comment on the number of managers or workers to be displaced, but "most staff members of the hotel will be given the option to remain in employment after June 30, 2010, under the hotel's new management arrangements," Karla Visconti, Hilton's director of corporate communications for the Caribbean, Mexico, and Latin America, told the Sunday Gleaner.
Howell and Wyndham executives flew the new flag at the property last Thursday.
