Karen Brown, human resource employee:

We need to produce more, we need to manufacture more. We have a lot of exotic fruits that we're not taking advantage of; and a lot of tourists come here, they want them. Maybe we should be exporting a lot of them, can them, sell them.

Basically, managing our investments on a whole.

Buy more Jamaican products ... . I work in the tourism industry, so I'm making sure that the people come back time and time again to spend the US dollar. In terms of things that they (tourists) can come out and see, maybe we need to be doing a lot more cultural activities that they would want to participate in when they come.

Earle Heslop, insurance agent:

Basically, the changes that are needed have to do with investments and human resources. We need to invest more in training youngsters, to be able to have the kind of work and employment where they can progress, where they can be built up so that they can make a good contribution to the economy.

One of the barriers would be a lack of employment.

Ann-Marie Haye, Claro promoter:

The first change: you need more jobs. You have a lot of young people on the road, just coming out of school; you have people coming out of university with their bachelor's, and yet we can't find a suitable job. So you need more jobs.

You need more learning centres.

The only thing I can do is work and help others to get jobs, and to put my education back into the system.

Fenton Rowe, food and beverage instructor:

I think we need more of our own production in Jamaica, so as to have our main products instead of keeping importing some of our main stuff, and grow and eat more of our stuff more than importing the things from abroad.

Joseph Hamilton, labourer:

We need better security, especially in the tourist industry, and if we can have that, we can have a better economy in Jamaica.

What I can do is to help to be a good law-abiding citizen.
