Landslides rock eastern Jamaica
THE HEAVY rains yesterday caused numerous landslides along the border of St Andrew and St Mary.
Rocks, dirt and trees were strewn along the Junction main road, temporarily blocking some sections and reducing traffic to single lane in other areas.
However, by early afternoon, the National Works Agency had cleared most of the debris along the roadway.
Disaster preparedness coordinator for St Mary, Yolande Jankie, said landslides were also reported in Richmond and along the Carron Hall Road.
She said road breakaways were also reported in the vicinity of the St Mary Technical High School.
A small wooden house that was being built by Dane Faircloth in Content, St Mary, was destroyed by the landslide.
"The whole a the inside come dung," Faircloth told The Gleaner, adding that he was about to "put the finishing touches" on his new home.
