votes today December

Members of the island's security forces whose names appear on the voters' list are to cast their ballots today. Voting is expected to begin at 8:00 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m. An advisory from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) said its members will vote at Up Park Camp, Moneague Training Camp and the Third Battalion Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve) outstations at Mandeville, Montego Bay and Port Maria. Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) members are expected to vote at 79 East Street in downtown Kingston, the Rockfort Police Station in East Kingston and other police divisional headquarters across the island. The lawmen were scheduled to vote last Saturday, but the Electoral Advisory Committee (EAC) said it recommended to the Minister with responsibility for Electoral Matters, Dr. Peter Phillips, that the third and fourth schedules of the Representation of the People's Act be amended to have members of the security forces vote today. This was to allow additional security features to be implemented to ensure the secrecy of the security forces' votes by not making their ballots different from those of the general voting population. |
