PNP three-parish blitz December
8, 1997
President of the ruling People's National Party (PNP), P.J. Patterson, led his team across a number of parishes on the weekend, as the party stepped up its campaign to win a historic third term. On Friday, Prime Minister Patterson and candidates were in St. Catherine, on Saturday they went to St. Ann, and yesterday they were in Trelawny. In Bog Walk, St. Catherine, the Prime Minister told a large gathering of supporters that the Government is insisting the election should be peaceful. He stressed the need for electors to come out and vote on election day without any hatred or bitterness. Mr. Patterson spoke of his government's achievements in housing, particularly in the Portmore community, where about 14,000 housing solutions have been built. Turning to the question of loans for cane farmers, the Prime Minister said these loans are available from the Government at a reasonable rate of interest. He also spoke of the government's achievement in education, offering a wider scope of opportunities for Jamaicans. On Saturday, the Prime Minister and his team passed through Brown's Town with a motorcade. Hundreds of supporters could be seen waving banners and flags. Mr. Patterson waved to the throng of people who were at every vantage point. He shook hands with scores of them. |
