Stalwart contribution in the field of education He has since left that post and was for a short time involved with the local election monitoring group Citizens for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE). The organisation played a key role in bringing international observers to the island to monitor the 1997 General Election. Dr. Sangster subsequently quit that post, the primary reason for his resignation being the board's rejection of his proposal to link CAFFE with the private sector, especially the Chamber of Commerce, to keep the organisation energised between elections from an action base. The board wanted CAFFE to stick to its core business. That did not stop him from continuing to make a contribution to public life however. He is actively involved in the Farquharson Institute of Public Affairs for which he's vice-chairman. The institute provides a forum for persons to express their view on matters of national interest. A recent case in point was a public debate on the much publicised Highway 2000 project. |
