Recovery Efforts boosted by US $7.5 million
The Office of National Reconstruction (ONR) received US$7.5 million, which translates into JA$465 million from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to assist with relief and reconstruction efforts.

The funds will be used to provide assistance in the most severely affected parishes in western and southwestern Jamaica. The priority areas include agriculture and business recovery; water and sanitation and rural infrastructure; and, repair and rebuilding of schools and health facilities.

The contribution follows a previous US$700,000 donation in cash and materials that the US government provided to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management.

NWA clears all main roads
National Works Agency (NWA) has cleared and provided access to all of the island's main roads and most of the B and C roads. Of the 1249 complaints the Agency received regarding blocked roads and breakaways among others, 1039 were made accessible.

A further breakdown of the figure reveals that 570 roads have been completely cleared, while 468 roads, have been opened to single lane traffic.

There are still communities however, where inundation or breakaways have restricted access to roadways. Some of these are in Westphalia and Pen Line Castle in rural St. Andrew and, Norwood and Douglas Castle in St. Ann. In St. Elizabeth, the Ginger Hill to Pisgah main road and Sandy River to Macknie (via Rhoden Hall) road in Clarendon are still not accessible. The NWA is working assiduously to rectify the situation.

Patient Day Re-scheduled
The Hanover Health Department is informing the public that the Patient Day scheduled for October 14, 2004 at the Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea, has been postponed as a result of disruptions caused by the recent hurricane. A new date will be announced in due course.
