Home :: Letters :: Who are the Jamaicans for injustice?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

PLEASE PERMIT me to share with your readers a nagging concern that I have about the splintering of our society into various groups championing one cause or another. Although the cause may be just, the underlying message is damaging to us as a nation.

Perhaps, my concern stems from the fact that as a child, I was puzzled about many things in the adult world, and in some ways, I was like the little boy who could not understand why in the Bible story of the ten virgins five were wise and five were foolish, when the ten of them did not pool together to get one big lamp with enough oil for all of them. As an adult, I now realise that childish ignorance was bliss. Be that as it may.

Every time I hear reference being made to Jamaicans for Justice, I ask the question, who are the Jamaicans for injustice? All those who are not members of this group? I can feel the attacks on my sense of justice and my person, but I will ignore them, even at my peril, and proceed.

When I hear about a Police Support Group (although I might have been too busy to hear much from that group in recent times), I wonder which law-abiding citizen does not support the police? More attacks.

I have saved the one of deepest concern for last. Families Against State Terrorism! Need I spell out the implications? Suffice it to say that I am terrified of the questions that this begs, especially in times like these. I suggest that this group gets a new name fast.

I am etc.,
