CLARENDON:

OMAR ROLLINS, 21-year-old unemployed of Juno Crescent, May Pen, Clarendon was sentenced recently to seven years hard labour for possession of firearm and four years at hard labour for possession of ammunitions. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Charged along with him were Michael Stephenson, Gregory Elliott, Navado Ford and Martin Young all of the same address. Rollins was arrested and charged on October 16, 2002.

Information received from the May Pen CIB are that on October 16, 2002 Rollins and the four men were travelling in a motor vehicle along the Chateau main road. Acting on intelligence, the police stopped the vehicle in the vicinity and asked the men to alight from the vehicle. The men started to come out of the vehicle and it was noticed that Rollins hesitated before doing so. The police reported that Rollins was seen dropping something on the floor of the car. The lawmen then searched the vehicle and a Beretta 9mm pistol and a magazine containing nine rounds were recovered. The men were subsequently arrested and charged for the crime.

The Clarendon Circuit court, as a result of lack of evidence, dropped charges laid against the other men.
