ST. THOMAS: THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD truck driver, Godfrey Franklyn, of White Horses, St. Thomas was sentenced to three years hard labour suspended sentence for illegal possession of car parts. Police reports are that on March 26, 2003 at about 2:00 a.m., police received a call from citizens in the White Horses area, reporting that a man was being beaten by other men. When the police arrived to investigate, the men fled leaving Franklyn. He was held by the police and brought to the Yallahs Police Station where he immediately confessed to the police. The Gleaner understands that Franklyn, who is not originally from St. Thomas, was part of a car stealing ring based in St. Elizabeth and Manchester. Their operation included buying vehicles which were written off, or worthless, and removing the chassis which has the number and placing them in stolen cars fitting the description of the old cars. If they are stopped by the police all their papers would appear to be in order.
