From one fire fighter to another

To the Commissioner
Thomas Von Essen

New York Fire Department

Dear Commissioner,

On behalf of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, I extend sincere condolences to you and the other fire fighters and officers in the New York City area, on the death of the over 300 members of your department who, it is reported, perished in the attack on the World Trade Centre on Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

We in the firefighting fraternity well recognize and accept the risks associated with our profession, but the loss is felt more so when one considers the circumstances surrounding these firefighters death.

Finally, we wish for all the members of the New York Fire Department, God's guidance and solace during your bereavement.

Yours sincerely,
F.R. Whyte
