Message from the Governor-General

AS I reflect on the principle of peace, the words of St. Francis of Assisi comes to mind -- "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me." It speaks to the simple fact that peace is made, and is found, within our own hearts.

We have to make a special effort to find that peace from within and then apply it to our family, friends and schoolmates. To succeed in this respect, we will have to make the effort to be patient and kind to each other, to love each other and to be more uinderstanding of each other, be this at home or at school.

We must not be afraid to show others that we love them, because love is a powerful instrument in finding and being at peace. Love is, in fact, 'catching' -- show someone that you care and you will experience a similar emotional response.

Let us live a life of love; a life that shows our concern for others through the things that we do and how we treat each other.

Starting now, let us bring peace into our schools and communities by the way in which we relate to each other, and watch that peace grow throughout our island home until the whole world is touched by it.

Howard Cooke
Governor-General
