THE HOST city for the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships and the winners of the coveted World Athlete of the Year award are set to be announced this weekend.

The announcements will be made at the IAAF Council Meeting in Monaco following this year's International Athletics Foundation (IAF) World Athletics Gala tomorrow evening

IAAF ambassadors, staff, committee and commission members, athletes and their representatives, as well as members of the interna-tional press, are involved in the selection process that will see a male and female athlete presented with the World Athlete of the Year award.

One member of the international media, Jamaica's current Sports Journalist of the Year who was asked to participate in the selection process, is Gleaner Senior Staff Reporter André Lowe.

Lowe, who left the island for Monaco on Wednesday, said it is a great privilege to be a part of the prestigious event.

"It's a credit to the work that we have done, not just myself, but also The Gleaner and it relates to our track-and-field coverage over the last year. We have been leading the front with our Daegu-to-London programme and it's obvious that the world's governing body is taking notice and I consider it to be a great privilege," Lowe said.

This year, the gala will be held in the Salle des Etoiles, Monaco, and The Honorary President of the Foundation, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, will attend the celebration.
