Sting makes an impression, 14 million of them
The recently concluded Sting 30 has broken yet another record as the first locally produced show to receive over 14 million viewer impressions via Google, according to the statistics of Real Time Tracker.
The show, which was produced by Supreme Promotions in collaboration with DownSound Records, went pay-per-view for the first time in its 30-year history and the market has responded.
The results of the impact of pay-per-view are yet to be revealed to the public, however, publicist Keona Williams says the traffic Sting brought to Google is encouraging.
Sting 30 made the most impression through Instagram followed by Twitter and YouTube respectively. Meanwhile, the top Sting stories searched on the Internet by viewers on December 27 were Super Cat's performance and the Dutty Berry Show's autopsy of the Macka Diamond and Lady Saw Clash.
The Real Time Tracker Sting 30 statistics also suggest that 60 per cent of the online traffickers were female.
There were other interesting statistics as well, with the most-popular gadgets or sources used to fetch information about the show being the iPhone, accounting for 29.9 per cent of the traffic, desktop computers, accounting for 24.2 per cent and Android devices accounting for 16.5 per cent.
Williams, Sting's social media manager, says the event is doing extremely well in the cyber world, though this is not the first time that the annual attraction, dubbed The Greatest One Night Show on Earth, has pulled global attention via the Internet.
TRENDING IN 2012
"In 2012 we were the second-most trending topic in the world as well. We trended for 18 hours, from 1 a.m. on December 27, to 7 p.m. that night. This makes a clear statement that Sting has grasped the idea of social media and is making significant impact because that's where the world is heading," said Williams.
"The directors of Sting really invested time and focused on the potential of the cyber market and the campaign was successful. It's a good thing when a Jamaican event is trending outside of Jamaica. There are other Jamaican events but it's rare when an event trends outside of Jamaica," Williams said
An Internet impression is a measure of the number of times a particular content is displayed online, whether it is clicked on or not. Each time the content is displayed it is counted as one impression.
